Born out of the Bay Area and supported by Y Combinator, Unfurl is reimagining food systems from the ground up—bringing high-quality, delicious meals into everyday life in an entirely new way. Tasked with positioning and naming this ambitious new brand, we partnered early to develop language that would stand out in a crowded category, while still feeling intuitive, approachable, and versatile enough to span platforms and geographies.

• In the fast-moving food tech space, most startups focus on solving delivery or logistics, while Unfurl set its sights higher: transforming the food experience itself. That ambition required a name that hinted at growth, transformation, and possibility—without leaning on overused buzzwords or utilitarian tropes. From day one, we knew the name needed to be short, distinctive, and compatible with digital ecosystems where it would appear alongside other brand names. We explored naming territories that captured ideas of emergence, freshness, and future-forward thinking. 
The result was Unfurl—a name that evokes expansion, optimism, and the natural evolution of something meaningful. It’s not just a name for a food company—it’s a word that invites people into a bigger vision for what’s possible, signaling a future of food that’s just beginning to unfold.
